Create A Way's annual benefit concert will be a day to raise visibility and raise funds for underprivileged youth to gain access to the arts through theater, acting, writing, and film workshops – a powerful way to put the spotlight on the wide array of viable careers in the media realm available to them, if given the exposure. Origin Nile Films is planning a [performance/concert/special event] to implement art programming at the Porter Sanford Community and Performing Arts Center, and we need your help!
BACKGROUND: This benefit concert is being facilitated by Origin Nile Films, an indie film and service organization which is dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth get the resources they need become creators. Over the past decade we have implemented several film and acting workshops offered free of charge in which students gained hands on knowledge of how a theater show goes on, how a short film is made, how to edit, work camera equipment, broadcast and much more. With the arts being wiped out of the inner city schools, our youth are oblivious to many prosperous career choices that they can have. It is our goal to bring this awareness to a segment of the population that would otherwise be denied.
THE CONCERT: will also benefit our community as a whole by educating the public about the Porter Sanford Community and Performing Arts Center. One of the goals of Origin Nile is to get as many people as possible to take a pledge to see at least one form of artistic expression per month – whether it is a film, play, concert, exhibit, or other arts experience. This will build audiences for artist's work and also give the community members an ongoing sense of involvement in the arts and a chance to learn about different perspectives on the world.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This will be a benefit concert in which the proceeds will go toward implementing our Origin Nile arts curriculum. We are planning to hold the concert at The Porter Sanford Community and Performing Arts Center. The center is an 18 million dollar facility which inhabits a 500 seat main stage theater, 150 seat black box theater, dance studio, offices, classrooms and historic museum. The facility is beautiful, yet due to underfunding, has not been utilized to its' full potential
SUMMARY: A gift to support our event is an investment in both creativity and equality. We know that there are certain demographic areas that are denied access to art programs and we seek to change that. By focusing attention and developing the creative work of young people, this benefit concert will help people imagine what the world might be like if people like Paul Robeson, Alvin Ailey, Ruby Dee, Spike Lee and of course Trey Songz never had the chance to develop their art.
Thank you for your support.
